About Curiocity
Curiocity is a National Library Board (NLB) website that uses digital storytelling tools to create content that tell interactive and compelling stories about the history of places in Singapore.
It is part of NLB’s Library and Archives Blueprint (LAB25) Singapore Storytellers initiative where NLB aims to curate and spotlight stories that capture the Singapore experience. This is to inspire the discovery and creation of more Singapore stories and instil a deeper appreciation of our collective experience.
In Curiocity, you can find the following digital content:
- Story maps are an innovative and dynamic way of telling a compelling and immersive story about a place or topic. These digital maps integrate text, images, and other multimedia resources to create a rich and interactive narrative that engages the audience and brings the story to life. With the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, our story maps offer a captivating experience by featuring interactive maps with clickable points of interest that reveal additional information or multimedia content when selected. Explore our collection of story maps and discover the exciting stories and hidden histories behind the places that shape Singapore’s unique cultural, social, and architectural heritage.
- Digital Stories are a dynamic and compelling way to communicate a message or tell a story. They are rich multimedia narratives that incorporate a range of elements, such as text, photographs, videos, and music, to create an immersive and engaging experience. By weaving together personal stories and memories with archival and library resources, Digital Stories offer a unique and authentic perspective on historical events and cultural phenomena.
- ArchiChronicles is a visually captivating platform that presents the history and evolution of Singapore’s most notable structures. With an array of immersive digital storytelling tools, such as interactive timelines and before-and-after sliders, ArchiChronicles offers a comprehensive exploration of the stories behind these architectural wonders, their cultural and historical importance, and their impact on Singapore’s landscape. To enhance the storytelling, ArchiChronicles draws from a vast collection of photographs, building plans, maps, and books from the National Library of Singapore and the National Archives of Singapore.
Curiocity brings the past to life by using digitised materials from the collections of NLB, NAS, NHB and URA, such as photographs, maps, paintings, postcards, artefacts, memories and oral history interviews. These materials supplement the written text in our Story Maps and Digital Stories, providing a rich and immersive experience for our users. Explore Singapore’s heritage and witness the city-state’s evolution through time and space with our carefully curated collection of multimedia resources.
